A Fairy's Life

by Alecia
(Florida)

How does a fairy begin its life? My friends and I love fairies and always wanted to learn more about them.

Ophelia Fey says -- Hello Alecia. A fairy's life begins in different ways, depending on the different types of fairies they are. Earth, air, fire, water, for instance. Fairies are not born in the usual sense.

You may have read in storybooks that every time a baby laughs a fairy is born. Well this does make fairies laugh! It is very cute, but it is, after all, a story. Some fairies may indeed be born that way, but not most.

Fairies are energy and so develop out of the energy of the element in which they belong. I am going to be writing a separate page on how fairies are born, because I have been asked this before.

Nature spirits always follow the cycles of nature, when nature's energy is strongest. For instance, at winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, and summer solstice, the longest day of the year. The turning of spring and of autumn. Also the cycles of the full moon or the new moon. The ebb and flow of the tides. Times of the day such as dawn, sunset, midday.

As with many animals, these cycles are very precise for nature spirits. At the right time during the right cycle, when energy develops say, within a flower seed, along with that seed energy that is gestating for the flower, another energy also Forms. It becomes a fairy for that flower. Or group of flowers. Similar processes happen for fairies of the elements of air, fire, water. I won't go into all of it here, but you may get the idea.

So a flower fairy is not born from every single individual flower. Fairy Forming is far more complex than that. Yet, a flower fairy that springs from a rose for instance, can be in charge of many, many roses -- not just his or her own. And so all flowers do have a nature spirit caretaker.

Nature spirits also have a hierarchy of who is in charge, you might say. You sometimes refer to them as a king and queen, or lord and lady. They also determine when Fairy Formation will happen. Sometimes Formation happens from the energy of a male and female fairy joining their forces to oversee the process.

Our being born process is not usually the same as with humans. And so it is difficult for mortals to understand. They therefore like to create lovely little stories about us that they do understand. Which is just fine. We do not mind in the least. We rather enjoy them, in fact.

THE FAIRY WITHIN US
by: ANNA

Is it true that everyone is a fairy we just have to look deep in our hearts?

[Ophelia Fey says] - I think the more accurate statement would be that everyone has wonderful fairy-like qualities within them, if they look deep in their hearts. That is not the same, of course, as Being fae. There are those who are mortals, and those who are beings of nature (fairies).

Is it true if you say, "I don't believe in fairies" one will die?

[Ophelia Fey says] - No, that is not true. Many nature beings are not even really aware of mortals, as they live in a different dimension, you might say. So fae are not affected by such things. But it sounds interesting for a story.
