Apple Fairy?
by Stephanie
Dearest Ophelia, I read on quite a few websites to never feed fairies apples because they can't tolerate them or something of that sort. I was wondering if this is true? Thanks.
Ophelia Fey says -- Hello Stephanie. As with mortals, there are fairies who do and do not like certain foods. It isn't a question of whether we can tolerate a food, since our bodies are not like yours and we don't need food in the same way you do, in the first place. It's a question of whether we like them.
And most fairies love apples. They grow almost everywhere and can be found almost anytime. Of course in the realm of Faerie we grow them year round, and some of them are golden of course.
When we visit your world, we often go to apple orchards because there are earth fairies who specifically care for them. If they are not yet ripe, well we can quickly fix that with a tap of the wand or fingertip.
Besides eating apples off the tree (and one apple serves many small fairies), we often include them in desserts at our festivities. We have something similar to your apple pastries. But we call it an Apple Crustling. The crust is made from a special concoction of ground seeds (like flour), butter, a little milkweed milk, a little salt, etc. And it is the flakiest crust you will ever have. Golden apples are used for special celebrations. They are both sweet and sour and have an added zip that can make one's head slightly tingle. Especially when sprinkled with sun-dust.
