Black Magic Roses

The mysterious black magic roses do exist. But you must know how and where to find them. They are rare and the way is dangerous. And they have yet to be discovered in your realm. This black rose is highly prized in the Kingdom of Faerie. And contrary to your belief, they too can be found by mortals. If you know where to look.

The black magic rose has two meanings to fairies:
A rose used in Black Magic.
A magic rose that is black.

It just depends who you are talking about. Only evil fairies, of course, practice the black arts, and only they would use the precious black magic rose for this purpose. Poisoning the thorns; causing the petals to burn whosoever may touch them; adding the nectar, buds and rose hips to dastardly potions, or infusing the blooms with toxic perfumes to the dismay of any who should stop and smell the roses. And more.

But enough of that. There is also simply the magic rose that is black. Perhaps I should not say simply. There is nothing simple about it. It’s magic is powerful and also used for good, especially by the fairy band we call the Nyx for short – you perceive them as “gothic” fairies.

This black rose has excellent healing properties and is often used in medicinal potions. And its scent is out of this world. Especially if you are out of this world. That is to say, in the dimension of Faerie. At any rate, all black magic roses grow from the seeds of black diamonds and are found far from human civilization deep within the jungle. It is not for me to say where. It is too dangerous for you to venture deep within its realm. Being nocturnal, when the flower has matured it blooms only at dusk, opening its petals. That is when they are in their glory.

In the camouflage of dark, these black roses are difficult to see. But fairies have excellent vision (night vision you sometimes call it) and can find them. If you happen upon this secret area before full nightfall, when dusk has just begun, you may then catch a glimpse of this elusive rose. Pluck it quickly and it will finish opening right in your hand. And if you are lucky, there will be its black diamond seed still inside.

You can see that these roses have depth of hue and somewhat of a transparency. Their thorns can be extremely sharp and even long. That is why they are so coveted by those in the black arts. And that is why I will not tell you where to find them, lest you come upon the evil fae against whom you may have little protection. They will not harm you if the Nyx fairies are near, as we can neutralize their power. But one of us is not always present in the gardens.

Only those of adventurous and strong spirit should ever considering searching for the black magic rose. And if you do, make sure you call upon the Nyx to come along. You will need our protection. Especially if you find them. Perhaps some day soon.
