I read in a website of how to enter your kingdom, and it said that you may never be able to return. Is this true? And how long is forever in the mortal world?
Ophelia Fey says -- Sarah, there are a few ways for mortals to enter Faerie, through particular portals, and even fewer ways for them to leave. That's not because we try to trap you there, however. (Well I take that back. There are a few fae folk who would try to keep you there. But if that is the point where you entered Faerie at, you are indeed in danger).
It's mostly because people become befuddled and confused in our dimension. Time seems to stand still, you see, since we do not have Time in the same way you do. So it seems like "forever."
Forever in the mortal world means time never ending. It goes on without end. But that is not quite true.
If you pass into Faerie, everything at first seems somewhat familiar and somewhat the same, yet not. Where you would enter is at a point of a parallel world. Where the veil is thin and our worlds every so slightly touch. But if you wander very far from that point, deeper into Faerie, you may lose your bearings. And not be able to find your way out. Or possibly not even want to. It is a somewhat like a dream. And it is so easy to forget...
And then, too, fairies will find you fascinating. You may not see us at first, for we will stare and whisper from our hiding places for awhile. You may hear us, and wonder if you've heard something. Or if it was the breeze in the trees. But our curiosity will get the better of us and we will slowly emerge from our camouflage and hiding places. And we'll want you to be our guest. Except that you won't have a clue what we're saying since you can't speak our language. And most of us cannot speak yours. You will eventually come to understand us, though. Like being around any foreign language long enough.
The deeper you go into Faerie, the more difficult it is to come out. You must stay Aware. Alert. Determined. Lest you forget...

Then what?

Hello again Ophelia,
You say that if a human was to wander into your realm too far, they may not be able to get back out, and that they may easily "forget".... Would it really be so easy for us to forget our lives and families, especially if we have children? As physical beings, we are pretty deeply rooted in our physical realities and I wonder if our strong emotional ties and instincts toward our children and families wouldn't be enough to keep our minds aware, once we figured out that we were not in our home realm. Im not questioning whether you're right about this, I'm just wondering how it would be that we could forget so easily. Does the frequency difference override our human emotions and instincts?
Also, what would happen to our physical forms if we couldn't find our way back out? Our bodies aren't made to stay there, so how could the realm hold us there? I know there are fae who have the magic to entrap us if they chose, but without such interference, how would we not simply fall back into our physical realm after a time?
Ophelia Fey says -- Hello, WindDancer. This is a rather long question (and quite interesting), and my answer is also rather long. So I am going to actually make a special Submission for you, as a separate Question and Answer. I will title it, "Returning Again." So you can look for it on a separate page. Thank you.
