Faerie Clothing
by Jenna
what do fairies wear?
Ophelia Fey says -- Faerie clothing (or fairies, spelled another way, depending where you're from), has a great variety. Even more so than with mortals. In Faerie there are many skilled shoe makers and clothiers. And hat makers -- hats are so very popular. And we do not judge fashion. Everybody gets to "be themselves" as you say.
Some faeries go for all-out fashion. Fashionistas, so to speak. Including some of the males. Especially a faerie queen and king, and their royalty. Flower fairies tend to dress accordingly. But some quite sparingly, though. Some faeries wear nothing at all. Since our bodies are not the same kinds of forms as yours, this is not an issue with us. A form is just a form, although we can enhance ours. We're more into the color and light emanations of a faerie form, rather than the looks of the physical body.
Faeries tend to clothe themselves with what is around them in their environment. Some are very clever. Some are, shall we put it, a bit plain. And it also depends on the element a faerie has sprung from -- earth, fire, water, air, etc. Faeries that are really into fashion will take things from nature around them and design the most astounding garments. Complete with jewels and fairy glitter.
Water fae are not all mermaids, of course, and they live in and near various bodies of waters. Some dress themselves in seaweeds, shells, pearls, etc., much as your artists portray in books. But there are others who know how to weave sea foam and spray, and how to adorn themselves in bubbles. It it quite a skill.
Air fairies use rainbows and all sorts of cloud formations to summon garments around themselves, if they clothe themselves at all. They are wispy beings and are the least concerned with clothing.
Fire fae have a difficult time keeping anything on. They get very hot, and then there is the matter of constantly scorching their clothing. But they have managed to develop creations from sparks, sparklers, fireworks, flames of various sorts, and smoke. Very intriguing. They naturally change clothes a lot, since nothing lasts very long.
It is the earth fae who are the most into clothing. Perhaps because their element is more permanent, and there is so much variety in the fields, woods, gardens and such, for them to choose from. And they so easily make friends with animals who are most happy to shed a bit of fur or skin, or silk worms and spiders to lend lovely silks. These fae have also become expert weavers and lace makers, evident in many of their garments.
And the gothic faeries have a great variety too. Some dress quite simply, like certain bat fairies. Some are ultra glamorous. It basically all depends on the individual and what they like.
