Fairie and Earthquakes
by Shariah
Dear Ophelia, I'm not sure if you've heard, but there was, recently, an 8.9 earthquake in Japan. Since fairies are essentially nature spirits, do they know about earthquakes and other natural disasters before they strike? How do these natural disasters affect them? Thank you.
Ophelia Fey says - Shariah, yes, I am certainly aware of the Japan earthquake, as are all nature spirits closely connected with your world. Let me try to explain our perspective about earth changes.
Nature spirits, working closely with all things in nature, especially those of the earth element, would know in advance when earth changes and tremors are developing. Our sensitivities are far more heightened than yours. But we never interfere with the natural progressions of nature. That is not our role. Our role is to work with nature, in conjunction with it. Whatever happens, and wherever it leads. We do not judge. Nature simply Is.
We therefore do not view anything that nature does as a "disaster." Or as "striking." That is a human phenomenon, and largely because humans may dwell in areas that are unstable, even when they know it.
To us, events simply take place in accordance with how they naturally develop. Your scientists are well aware that such things do happen upon earth in cycles and even with some regularity. None of these things truly come as a surprise.
But, of course, it does not affect us the same way, for we can move about and cross dimensions, even retreat into Faerie as needed. We are not as attached to our dwelling places. We can easily move and re-create.
We do feel sadness for the plight of people who have been affected by such earth changes. We do understand the dilemma. And so we do what we can to lend comfort and inspiration. Especially when asked. Which is not as often as one would hope.
There is a certain thrill to behold the power of nature. Perhaps not for you, though. Humankind tends to try to control everything it comes into contact with, and this is natural too. I do not mean this as a criticism. But one must bear in mind, that can only be accomplished to a certain extent. For in one fell swoop, all can be undone by the power of nature. And this should never be forgotten.
