Fairie Dust

by Daisy
(Guam)

I wrote a note to a fairie to see if there was one in my house. I attached my note to a drawing me and my sister made for them. The next day I was looking at my note and drawing and found some sparkly things on it! Is that a real fairie? I'm looking forward to your answer! Thanks in advance.

Ophelia Fey says -- That very well could be fairie dust (also spelled faerie or fairy dust, depending on where you live). Dust from pixies or fairies is often very fine in texture and, of course, a bit sparkly. Sometimes is looks like colored sugar. In fact, our own sugar contains a certain type of fairy dust.

When fairies come and go, we often leave behind a bit of our sparkle. We're not suppose to do this if we want to keep our presence a secret. But if we become very excited we may forget to whisk it away before leaving. If we do want someone to know we were there, we will leave a bit of fairie dust behind on purpose. A sort of sign or message, you might say.

I'm leaving a photo of what it may look like.
