Fairy Dust Bottles

by Melody

Hi Ophelia, Is the fairy dust in the small bottle necklaces you can get in the malls real fairy dust?

Ophelia Fey says -- No, it is not really real, although it is quite clever. This is a picture of a fairy dust bottle in a typical bottle that a fairy would use. It is just a standard bottle, nothing special. (Although some gothic fairies and other types of fairies do use bottles that are far more spectacular).

Fairy dust, you see, does not last for any length of time in the human realm. It can disappear quite quickly from here. Whereas, in our world where it is made and made for, it lasts practically forever. (Perhaps that is a slight exaggeration).

We do leave fairy dust behind oftentimes when we come to visit you. I guess you could say it is part of the energy footprint we leave. If you are alert you may see it. And then an hour or less later you will wonder what happened -- it is gone. As in all things in nature including the dew, it comes and goes.

You can try to gather it up and put it in bottles, but it won't work. It cannot last here in your world. But the fairy dust bottles in your stores are quite an intriguing copy. And who knows. We may just tap a little of our own into your bottle. And you will have some real fairy dust for at least a tiny while.

Fairy Dust Uses?
by: thrymr

What do faeries use the dust for?

[Ophelia Fey says] - As I have mentioned in other places on the web site, fairies themselves do not necessarily need fairy dust, although they might use it (nor would we put it in bottles). At least none that I am familiar with would.

So-called fairy dust is formed from the elements from which it came and thus has certain properties - just as diamond dust would, for instance, in the physical world. Or what you would call star dust - which is residue from starry bodies, partly gases, vapors, and partly matter. Beings of nature follow laws of nature, but at a very high level and dimension not familiar to mortals. Since we are not limited by physicalness, we are able to move and weave in and out of nature in unusual ways. Thus we are able to use particles in nature in ways that you are not able, mostly for caring for nature itself. Our world is accelerated; it vibrates at a different speed, you could say. So everything here seems a bit slow. Therefore what we do with nature would seem "magical" to you.

Pixie Dust
by: Happy Mom

My daughter is so into fairies (as am I) but I don't know how to explain to her why her pixie dust doesn't help her fly??? HELP!!!

[Ophelia Fey says] - It is simply because mortals are not meant to fly, as you know. It is not part of human nature and biology to do so. Her pixie dust is a fun thing to look at and to think about, and in doing so, may help her put her attention on the Unseen world of Faerie - and then perhaps be able to See. It is sometimes difficult to accept the limitations of the world of form.

Pink and Gold Fairy Dust :)
by: Katie-Anne

Hi Ophelia!

One day, I noticed on my window sill some sparkly pink and gold dust. I think it is fairy dust because I've been inviting them in my room for the past couple of days. I don't have any sparkly fairy dust in my house, only blue but not pink or gold. I also noticed how the batch of 'fairy dust' was near a special fairy box I made especially for the fairies. I filled the box with charms, jewelry, shiny rocks and other sparkly stuff I think the fairies like, like beads. Do you think it is fairy dust, Ophelia? And does that mean that two fairies have visited me because they are two different colors?
Thank you and please answer this! Katie-Anne xx

[Ophelia Fey says] -- Hello Katie-Anne. What you have written certainly does fit the description of fairy dust. There is no way for me to tell how many fairies may have visited you. Just because there are two colors of dust does not necessarily mean two fairies. Sometimes fae can have several colors. The things in your fairy box sound quite spectacular -- I'm sure anyone would love them. You just might find a small rock or bead has gone missing some day. So don't be surprised.
