Fairy Ears
STEP 5
Fairy Ears - Fairy ears are lots of fun to draw and paint since they can be so unusual. Because fairies have really good hearing, their ears are shaped to be able to pick up sound. And that sometimes makes them look pointed. And their ears (like other parts of their forms) can take on the look of their surroundings. They can have leaves, vines, flowers, etc., growing out them, for example.
Since I’m just making a series of fairy sketches in pencil without painting them or adding or color, I’m going to keep it simpler than the way fairy ears can really look.
So these ears are not drastically different than in the previous Step 4. I’ve just added a little leafy detail -- leaves coming off the vines of her ears and resting on the side of her face as if tattooed to her skin. And fairies do often have bits of nature impressed into their forms.
Plus I’m adding earrings. I’ve tried to get the look of round gem stones (maybe pearls) with dangling dew drops.
The hair is also becoming more defined. I can now get a sense of what kind of hair this fairy has – it’s not seeming as “fuzzy” looking anymore. The first stage is sketching in a few stems and flowers sprouting out of her head, which is very common. But that is just the beginning.
Next – More detail for the fairy hair.
