Fairy King and Queen

Is there a King and Queen of the fairies? If so are there perhaps multiple Kings and Queens of the various types of fae? Also, are they voted into office or is it a lineage thing that is passed down to the oldest child of the King and Queen?
Ophelia says -- There are many kingdoms within the Kingdom of Faerie – Lesser and Greater realms, and so we do have many kings and queens. And actually we have more queens than kings, as fairies tend to be matriarchal. All royals are either are born into or appointed to their roles. Fairy kings and queens are never voted in. That would be chaotic and unreliable (like some of the fairies who would be doing the voting!)
Various elements (earth, air, fire, water) naturally contain completely different realms. In water alone you have the deep abyss, the shallows, coral reefs, ponds, rivers, streams, and lakes. Very different types of fairy folk inhabit each. And in the earth element, of course, you have high mountains, hidden caves, forests and woods, fields. Each area has a Lesser or Greater king and/or queen.
Fairy royalty hold their position for often thousands of years. Some are said to be immortal. However, all fairies may eventually be subject to the Passing; immortality is not necessarily forever (I know that may be difficult to understand). But if highly evolved in the spirit sense, they will maintain their spirit identity on another Plane, and thus are still immortal in a different way. Much the same with humans.
At any rate, should a royal Pass or be deposed (yes, that does occasionally occur) then the position would fall to the eldest offspring; we do not discriminate regarding gender. Almost all royals take their responsibilities very seriously. There are sometimes those who misuse their power. Eventually a Council would be held composed of many kingdoms, led by the royal of the highest rank and powers, to assess the situation and to even summon the powerful Consensus, a group magic which is forced upon a royal who is found guilty of violating their trust. But that is another story entirely.
