Fairy Pets?

by Sabrina
(Vic )

Do fairies have pets? Love, Sabrina.

Ophelia Fey says -- Oh yes, fairies definitely have pets. Perhaps not in the same way you do. We do not keep anything in a cage, pen or barn, or behind a fence. We don't need to. When we decide to take on a pet, they must also decide they want to be our pet. And so if they do, then they are loyal and do not run away or stray.

We let our pets wander in their own habitat, to come and go and eat naturally. But they bond with us and stay near our dwelling place or home. They always come back, that we can count on. No one has ever lost a pet. Sometimes they bring us food, and sometimes we feed them. Keep in mind that since some fairies are very small, our pets can be quite huge. A small fae with a bunny or cat, for instance. Or a chipmunk, mouse or wombat. But we don't mind. They are perfect to curl up with for a nap. Rarely a wolverine, Tasmanian Devil, gila monster or Komodo dragon. All too tempermental.

A bird is a little smaller (depending on the bird) and are great fun because they also fly. And they always let us ride on their backs if we want to. Or we fly side by side. If it is a water fowl such as a swan, what fun that is... then we have a boat as well.

We often take on the coloring of the bird and blend in with them quite amazingly. So if we are riding on their back, we'd be very difficult to see indeed. And there are those fae who also just adore bats. I try very hard to be open minded about that.

Speaking of flying, some of us have taken on a butterfly or two. And if so, we may copy their wing design for ourselves so we match. Fairies love camouflage. And if we are friends with the monarchs, we would of course migrate with them as well. Some fairies who are more advanced in their skill level are able to extend the life of a butterfly or bird.

Water fae have an unusual variety of pets. A favorite is the sea horse, especially one you call the leafy sea dragon. (Or any kind of dragon, for that matter). Eels and sting rays are wonderful. All rays, really, the way they glide. Then there are a variety of snails, although it's easy to get impatient with them. Certain jelly fish are really fun to float with. And the blow fish. Quite entertaining. And of course the dolphin. Most whales are a bit enormous, although a fae may like to hitch a ride, or take a jump with them.

And if you have a pet, we'd love to be invited to play with it. No matter what kind. Even a tarantula.

My Pets
by: Alison

Ophelia,I have lost Golden and Lily to a predator a few days ago. The night this happened, someone else in my family was supposed to have shut the coop. She had forgotten.

Now I only have Maple, Chestnut, Rosewood and Freckles. This is not the first time I have lost my hens to a predator. I feel as if I have lost two small children. I am now extra protective of the remaining four. Golden and Lily were good egg layers before they were taken.

I'm the only one who becomes attached to any and all hens my family bring home. The others are not that upset when a hen or two are lost to a predator. They think I should not get that attached to them. I can't help it, I just feel that they are like my little children. Sorry, I just needed to tell someone.

[Ophelia Fey says] - Of course you would become attached to your hens! They are animal that you care for and have their own kind of intelligence and personality. Nature, though, (such as predators) is not always what mortals consider "nice." But when it happens to your own, it is quite another thing, and very sad.

Fae pets

(laughter) Aye Ophelia, they are great fun! I can not imagine my life with out them now. The breed that these chickens are, is called Red Star. I at this point, know that they are near when they are calm and quiet when I pick them up to hold them and pet them. To me, they are like my little children.

You're so cool

I love the page you put up on fairies and their pets and I can see fairies because I saw one 2 nights ago ( I was eating a Browne :)! I love your web site it gives me soooo much information. I love it and I saw a page that said to "say thank you when I respond," so I will check if you said any thing to me. And say thanks.

Fae pets

Ophelia, would that also include chickens? I have pet chickens and they are great fun. They can be trained to do a variety of things. I have six hens and they are all the same breed.

I have named them and their names are: Maple, Chestnut, Rosewood, Golden, Freckles and Lilly. I'm sure you will adore them. Freckles will often fly up on my arm to get more food. And hop up on my knee when sitting on a log in the chicken yard.

Do any Fae have chickens as pets in the way that Fae keep pets? That would be sweet, as chickens can be playful and affectionate in their own way.

[Ophelia Fey says] - Chickens! What fun! There is no doubt that you yourself have attracted nature beings to you and your chickens. Fae may not choose them in particular, but if they are special or draw their attention, they just might!
