Fairy Wing Sketch
STEP 7
Fairy Wing Sketch - Fairy wings can range from fancy to simple, depending on the fairy, what she or he does, and even their mood! For some fairies, wings are a more of a fashion accessory not a necessity, since many fairies do not really need them to get around.
In this drawing only part of the wings is showing. The emphasis here is more on the face and hair. So in this fairy wing sketch I gave them only a hint of fancy, nothing overboard.
This is a floral fairy, as you can see by her sprouting and blossoming hair. So her wings match the floral theme, with a hint of butterfly spots. Not all fairy wings look like butterflies or dragonflies. Some are more like streams of light, and it's really difficult to get them to look just right. And some fairy wings take on the look of the surroundings, like flowers, leaves and vines.
This fairy actually would have amazingly detailed wings. But as an artist, I have to choice what I want to put in and leave out. Since not much of these wings fit in the picture anyway, it's best not to over-do it.
Next: Finishing the fairy, adding a bit of the costume.
