Dear Ophelia, I play the violin and was wondering if fairies like the sound of a violin. Because I would like to play for them. Thank you very much.

Ophelia Fey says -- Emily, fairies would be delighted with your violin music. Violin has a soulful sound and is very lovely. We love just about any kind of instrument. Some fae even like noises that are loud and booming.

All you need to do is play your favorite music. That way it will be coming from your heart, and we will feel that as well. And don't be concerned about whether or not you feel like you're "good enough." (I'm just saying this to readers in general -- you are obviously feel confident or you wouldn't be asking this!) Anyway, there is no such thing as "good enough" in music, art, writing, sports, or other things either. What is important is that it is important to you, and that it makes you feel happy. That is partly what we will feel and be attracted to.

Music for Fae

Ophelia, so what you mean is that you or any other Fae will not care that I can not hold a tune? That's a relief! My mortal friends are just being nice, by saying that they don't care that I can't hold a tune. I think may be taking some basic singing classes might help me to better hold a tune. What do you think?

[Ophelia Fey says] - Your friends probably really do not care whether you can hold a tune or not, because what they care about is YOU! And if part of you is about not holding a tune -- oh well. I'm sure they are not just being nice; they are caring about you. And yes, singing classes do help with this, if you are truly interested. TRULY interested, and not just because you are concerned with others think.

Music for Faeries

Since Faeries like the sound of a harp, have any visited Orla Fallon? She plays the harp and sings beautifully. I would think that her singing, harp playing,and being close to nature would attract many faeries. That would be really cool if you or any others have. She's close to nature. I don't know if she believes in faeries. I think her music would most certainly be considered faerie music. Thanks.

[Ophelia Fey says] - Harp music and other similar string instruments are among the most popular types of music for nature beings. You can feel its vibration hanging in the air. So it is highly possible that fae would visit anyone who plays the harp, especially if skilled. And very especially if also close to nature. Beautiful music itself is enough to attract fae, whether they are Seen or not, Believed in or not.

I can play two instruments and I can sing. Plus I listen to the radio and iPod. What would fae like the most?

[Ophelia Fey says] - Beings of nature prefer what is natural, and that would be what you do, yourself. Such as you singing or playing an instrument. Music that comes through electronics can be very nice at times, but is not as natural.

Music for Faeries

Ophelia,I don't listen to music that is about "bad" things or is really loud. I most certainly don't listen to rap, screamer rock or any other really loud "music".
I mostly listen to groups and artists like U2, Celtic Woman, Orla Fallon, Hayley Westenria, Moving Breath, lots of harp, fiddle, bagpipe instrumentals and movie soundtracks.

A fair amount of the songs are in Gaelic. I don't know what frequency my eletronic device is on. I mostly sing with my earbuds in because I can't keep the tune and remember all the words. Especially if it is in Gaelic. I don't know Gaelic except for one word. I always look up the lyrics to the songs so I know if the message is good or not. No "bad" stuff in my music because I do a screening process before adding it to my collection. Does this help you?

[Ophelia Fey says] - Do not be too concerned about your electronic devices. The music you mention is very lovely and will be appreciated by fae. I think it is actually quite amusing, although also somewhat horrifying, that there is "music" called Screamer Rock. How telling. Needless to say, anything screamy would not be of interest to most beings of nature. Perhaps it has its place to those mortals who like it. But few fae do. But... each to his own, as they say. Anyway, simply enjoy your music. Your enjoyment of life, your happiness, kindness, caring ...those are the most important things that will attract beings of nature.

Music for Faeries

Ophelia, do faeries like the sound of a harp? What do faeries do if they hear bad singing? I like to sing but I'm terrible at it. I tend to sing with my ear-buds in so I can sing along with the music I'm listening to. Faeries wouldn't come to investigate would they? Would my electronic player interfere with their changing frequencies? Just wondering.

[Ophelia Fey says] - Fae might be interested in your electronic device music if it is something appealing to them. But if it is coming strictly through your ear buds into your ears and others cannot hear it, they may not be interested. Whereas nature beings like natural sounds best (that is, coming from real instruments such as a harp), not all would be repelled by music from a device and its frequency if it is the right kind for them. They might adjust and tolerate it for awhile, if interested.

Also, the message of the music, the lyrics, could be a very big turn-off for many fae. I think you know what I mean. And... they would not find your singing voice to be "bad," but joyful! After all, singing comes from the heart, and that is what matters. Not the outer perfection of it.

Recorders

I don't play many string instruments. But I have a plastic recorder(the instrument not the machine). So if I play the recorder outside or through a open window, will they come? Especially If I calm myself and leave chocolate.

[Ophelia Fey says] - Oh yes, Sheila, if there are nature beings out and about at the time you are playing, they will hear and take notice. And will come over to check it out. I am very glad that you mentioned calming yourself, for that is a very important step. Chocolates are indeed nice, but you being nice is even nicer. So do focus on niceness to all as much as you can, as well as your nice music. They will hear if they are there. Pay attention and see if you can feel them.

What do fay like best piano or recorder? I play both but don't know what to play to them. Can you help?

Piano Music for Fairies

I was wondering, I have just learned to play Fur Elise on the piano, would faeries enjoy it if I played it for them? Thank you ever so much.

[Ophelia Fey says] -- If you are speaking about the Beethoven piece, that happens to be one of my favorites. It is truly beautiful, and one that would be most attractive to nature beings. Mary also played that piece on the piano when younger. It was lovely to listen to.

Japanese Music?

[Ophelia Fey says] - Certainly they do. Nature spirits enjoy all types of music from all lands. We do like very much all string instruments, reeds, and even enjoy a loud gong now and then.
