Pixies and Fairies

Tinkerbell pixie, by Myrea Pettit

About pixies and fairies- I was wondering about Pixies. Are they really the little pranksters that everyone says they are? Because I think there is some sort of Fairy/Pixie playing with me in my room. I'll find an item missing one day then it's back the next, and this cycle continues. It gets me really confused, but yet happy that there is something like a Fairy near me. Thanks! :) - Devyn

Ophelia Fey says -- Hello Devyn. There are fae folk that one could indeed consider to be "pranksters." Not that they necessarily mean any harm. Well I should say most, that is.

It seems in mortal folklore a pixie is seen as a little being with pointy ears and eyes, usually with wings. Your famous storybook Tinkerbell was a pixie, I believe. Although we do have some fae that might loosely fit that description, not all so-called fairy pixies do. Some are quite a bit larger, in fact.

We will call them pixies to keep it simple. So these particular pixie folk are rather lively and have quite a sense of humor. And it does not necessarily mesh with yours. What they might find to be tremendously humorous, you might find tremendously annoying. They might be rolling in laughter; whereas, you are ready to scream. And perhaps ready to blame someone for something -- But unless you really know, you never do know.

These types of pixies and fairies are also exceedingly curious and want to know everything, and how things work. Thus they do like to take things apart. They would probably try to put it all back together as well, (and I must emphasize the word try), but the end result might be that it is not put back together exactly right. And so that thing that they took apart may not again work, alas.

Now and then these particular fairies and pixies can get a bit fussy too. If they happen into your world, and happen to wind up around a messy environment or people who are being fussy and mean - well, it brings out the worst in them you see. They tend to just react instead of always being on their best behavior. Not always for the best at all. They have, in fact, somewhat tarnished the reputation of fae folk I am afraid. And perhaps that is one reason why people think fairies can be pranksters and pests. But truly, there are very few who would really bother you.

I have a few questions please
by: Nanafran

If I may ask, how do each of the fae folk come to be? Are they born? I have been told that lady bugs are the nannies to fairies. True? It seems most of the fairies crafted are ugly, I think of them as mystically beautiful. I want to sculpt fairies, I would also like to write a children's book to explain about fae folk. If they learn young they will understand and appreciate them. Maybe find fun in what they do and laugh instead of get upset. I don't have my own friend fairy, though I would love one. Can you help me with stories and facts?

[Ophelia Fey says] - Most of the questions you ask I have answered already, so I won't go into it again. I also find fae to be quite beautiful. "Ugly" is just a word, a label, after all. What is important is what is inside. Some nature beings who would be thought of by mortals as "ugly" are actually quite proud of their very unique looks. I wish that more mortals would think the same way. I do encourage you to write a children's book! I cannot help you with stories tough, as they must come from your own heart.
