What do Fairies ACTUALLY
look like?

by Alice

I have read all of your pages, including "How to see Fairies". Now, you said we Mortals imagine them to be little Humans with wings. Well, I don't mean to be rude, but you haven't made it clear to me what they actually look like. I can't imagine a little human, I just can't, but possibly that's what some look like. So please help me, what do Fairies REALLY look like? Thankyou very much.

Ophelia Fey says -- Alice, thank you for asking this question. I am sure others wonder the same thing. It is difficult to narrow this down, because humans see with human eyes, and tend to only see forms that they are used to seeing. Most do not see other energy forms in nature, which is what we are. And also, it depends on:
Who is looking?
Perhaps that sounds strange.
But your eyes see energy patterns differently than those of a reptile, which see emanations of energy, like heat. So everything looks quite different to them. And a dog will see something else.

Let me begin by saying, we are what we are in our natural state. And then we are what we are when we choose to take on more form, or densify ourselves, you might say -- change our frequency -- to interact with different dimensions. Most nature spirits do not do this. Yet we are present around you. Some of us do, as it is our purpose and of interest for us to interact.

Therefore, when we do take on form, we would appear to you in a way in which you are familiar. You may have read stories about people seeing angels -- who do much the same thing, taking on a familiar form for you. Otherwise, people would not know what they are seeing. Obviously, they would not look like you in the heavenly world.

That is how it is with us, and why very small fae have been seen as small, sort of human shapes, with wings. Yet probably transparent looking, and as if camouflaged in the nature around them. As if morphing out of it. But we are not all small. I certainly am not, although I could become a small form if I so desired. But why would I. Well I supposed I would under certain circumstances. But I digress...

And so we appear as we appear. To whomever is looking.
Therefore, a reptile may say, "It looked this way."
But a dog may say, "Not at all, it looked this way."
A nature spirit would say, about one of our own, "Actually, we look quite another way."
And a person may say, "No, it looked this way, and I know it did, because I saw it." But they only saw it with their own eyes. Do you see?

I would say, to make it less confusing, that we would mostly look to you like light forms, with a body of sorts. And the wings that you see would be emanations of energy that are emitted from our forms as we move. This is how we would mostly look in our most natural state. That is how some of you may see us. Yet some who can see into the Unseen, may see more detail.

For us in Faerie, however, our forms look quite "real" and complex to us, just as yours do to you. It's just that most of you cannot perceive us the same way as we perceive ourselves.

I hope this has not confused matters even more. It is difficult to describe things to another being who is from another place. But the bottom line is, we look as we look to whomever is looking.

Why not real?
by: NeviLou

Hi I have believed in fairies and creatures like them all my life. (I went through 1st grade at Waldorf in pgh). Now I'm in my 3rd school and my friends sometimes make fun of me. And say they're not real, which then I go into a "I do believe in fairies" fit. What should I do? And could you give me some more info on fairies?

[Ophelia Fey says] - There is already quite a bit about fairies on this web site for you to read, and more will be written eventually. (And I think Waldorf schools are wonderful - I have been familiar with them for a very long time.)

There will always be people who do not believe in this or that or the other thing in life. And so what. All that means is that they are having their own experiences and beliefs for their own reasons... and they are not yours. And it is probably not your place to try to convince them of anything else. Trying to convince usually does not work anyway.

You do not need to explain yourself whatsoever, or what you like or believe, to any of your friends. If you know they are going to misunderstand you, why even bring it up? And why have a fit over it? Let them be themselves, and let you be yourself. Just let it go. When you allow someone to cause you to have a "fit," you are no longer in control of yourself. Someone else is.

So be in command of your own life. Most people choose to limit themselves to the purely physical world; it is often just easier to do so. There is nothing "wrong" with any of it one way or another. Everybody simply has their own way of being.

See Fairies with Glasses?
by: Sara

Can you see a fairy if you have glasses? I keep on wondering if it's only possible to see them with the naked eye. Oh and while I'm talking about glasses, do fairies wear them or is their sight perfect? Thank You.

[Ophelia Fey says] -- Oh yes, of course you can see fairies with glasses on. It has nothing to do with anything. Mary wore glasses for almost her entire childhood. Until she got contacts. And then eye surgery. Seeing has everything to do with your inner self, not your outer physical vision. It is when the inner self takes over, or combines with your outer vision, that you are able to See. Fairies do not need to wear glasses. As you may understand by now, we do not have the same type of form as you do. Although it is sometimes fun for artists to show them with spectacles. And we do not mind at all.

Fairies seeing us
by: Ellie

First of all, thank you ever so much for this fabulous website! I would like to know, as we see faeries differently to their own folk do, do they see us differently?

[Ophelia Fey says] - Nature beings mostly see you from the inside out. That is what they first notice. Your energy or "vibe" as it is sometimes called. Then they will notice your outer form, which is quite unimportant to them. I know that is very unlike how mortals look at each other -- being so into outer looks. What a pity, for it matters not.

And those who can learn to see the inner Real selves of each other, find the inner worth and beauty -- that Unseen part -- will have an easier time seeing other Unseen things in life, including fairies.

Fairies see what?
by: the girls who wants to fly

So let me get this straight. Exactly what do fairies see? Do fairy forms look like humans to fairies, if they don't look human to us? Or is the way that they look to us just complex to them?

[Ophelia Fey says] - What a wonderfully interesting question! There are many levels and types of nature spirits. Some are very ethereal and hardly take form. Others can take form quite well. Nature beings are used to Seeing the sensitive vibrations of nature, including energy waves and colors, particles, etc. So a fae form may look like any of the above to another fae. Or it may look firey. It may look wispy, almost like steam or smoke. Or like sparkling particles. Or it may look substantial. Fae are able to adjust vision in accordance with the vibrations they are perceiving. However, they do not let the outer form fool them. They are equally as capable as Seeing and sensing the Light (or lack of it) within. In a mortal, say. Or another fae also. Fae, too, can lack in Light or energy when feeling low. Forms in our world can be extremely complex or extremely simple. But also not necessarily dense.

Do faries dress up?
by: sydney

Thank you ophelia for this great website. Do fairies dress up for Halloween? I have something called a fairy door and my fairy is being a black cat. Do you dress up? this year for Halloween I am being Alice from Alice In Wonderland.

[Ophelia Fey says] - I find this to be a very endearing question. There are some beings who move in and around those places close to mortal realms. Beings of nature are often mimics and enjoy copying what they see. Therefore, some may be intrigued by "dressing up" as you call it. For they find it festive. But not in the say that you may think. Many of your stories and cultural traditions hold no meaning to fae folk. But they would get the feel of celebration and might want to fancify themselves in their own ways.

How Big?
by: Sarah

Thank you so much for creating this website! I understand what you are saying about how different people/creatures see fairies differently, but I do have one question? how big are you/can you get? Thanks for your time!

[Ophelia Fey says] - Nature spirits can range from the very little (the kind that seem be the most popular in human art and movies), to medium height, to quite large (such as some who care for certain trees, like the Redwood). I, myself am typically about 4 to 5 feet in stature, depending on the day and my mood. On the other hand, some nature spirits hardly have form at all. A bit wispy or intangible, you might say.

loving this website
by: olivia

this place is so cool!

[Ophelia Fey says] - Thank you, Olivia, I am glad you enjoy it. It is high time that people learn to "lighten up." And learn that there is ever so much more in the Universe than what meets the very limited human eye.

I hope that everyone some day can learn about your science of quantum physics. It has been called by mortals the "weird science." And I suppose it truly does seem weird. But of course not to those who are familiar with the inner workings of nature - most of which is not apparent to the human eye. Although some of it can be detected with your high-power microscopes, and whatever else you call all of your gadgets. But that is just the beginning of learning about the natural (and often "weird") behavior of things.

Calling A Fairy
by: Anonymous

How do you call a real fairy, and do they really come? Please tell me - I'm busting to know. From Rose

[Ophelia Fey says] - You don't really need to "call" a fairy. You must attract them. You could try to call and summon them and cast spells and so forth until the cows come home. Yet they might not come - for various reasons which I have outlined previously. The best way to attract them is to get yourself in the right frame of mind and mood, etc. I have written several pages about this that you can refer to!

Are Fairies See-Through?
by: Anonymous

Thank you! this is a great website! I have one simple question. Take your time to answer it (for I have pretty tough questions to answer). Do fairies look like see-through angelic people in many shapes and sizes? Your new friend....Sydney E

[Ophelia Fey says] - Hello Sydney. Yes, we do often look see-through. However, whether we look like "angelic people" -- each and every person has a fixed idea in their minds of what angelic people look like, and it seems they are quite different. Some think of angels in the traditional sense as painted by your artists of old, with fluffy feather wings and such, or like little babies (which is a bit erroneous). Others see them as simple beings of light. We are not the same as they are, of course, since we are a different evolution with a different purpose. However, we do have many shapes and sizes, depending on the element to which we belong. And we often do look transparent, since it really takes some doing for us to make our forms so they can be seen by you.

Looking?
by: Anonymous

I can't imagine something almost clear. I've cleared my mind on everything and relaxed, but cannot see them. Believe me, one lives with me but I can't see it. Are there real pictures, not paintings? And can you tell me how they think they look?

[Ophelia Fey says] - We do not think about how we might look to mortals. We simply are. Some of us do try to densify ourselves as much as possible, taking on a sort of form. Others just do not care to bother, for being seen is not our priority. Caring for nature and fulfilling our reason for being are. However, since some of us do take care of you, then we would be more interested in being seen. This is the challenge between us - your seeing us. And, too, our seeing you. (Some of us who do not dwell where our dimensions connect and who are not used to your ways, simply do not believe you exist, because they do not and cannot see you! You are to them, just mortal tales told around the fae fire at night.) And so the issue of Seeing comes from both sides, really. I have written many things about ways to get past your five earthly senses and learn to See. It is a matter of practice. And also, it helps tremendously to have quiet time for yourself every day. This is how you will learn to tap into that side of yourself that goes beyond your outer human mind, which limits you. I cannot stress enough that if you want to do this, you must make an effort to take time out from all your electronic devices, which interfere. That alone can put up a barrier.

Thank you!
by: Alice

Wow! Thank you so much for answering. When I got the email saying it's been accepted, I felt really happy! Because I have sent you loads of questions, but it's actually an honour for you to have answered, and now I know what they really look like! Next time I go out in my garden maybe I will be more likely to see them! Thank you so much again, I really really appreciate it! Take care! -Alice x

[Ophelia Fey says] - You are very welcome, Alice. And I'm sorry that I was not able to answer your other questions! I do read each and every one - but I get literally hundreds of questions, comments, and messages. So it would be impossible for me to answer them all.

Also - Keep in mind that nature spirits are not necessarily all small (I'm sure you do understand that). So it is the essence of what we are, that you would be looking for.
